The Free Library of Philadelphia (Pepper Society) is a fundamental part of the city’s history, dating back to its opening by Dr. William Pepper in 1894 as “a general library which shall be free to all.” It remains just that today, and it is an essential resource for community members in the Philadelphia area.
The core of the Free Library’s mission is to advance literacy, guide learning, and inspire curiosity. With numerous sites throughout Philadelphia, the Free Library’s efforts are made to build an enlightened community devoted to lifelong learning.
With a shared value for promoting education, Enviri’s support of the Free Library will directly support the organization’s Languages and Learning Center. This program supports the learning goals of adults who wish to improve their English, essential reading skills, and digital literacy.
